How many sensors/mesh gateways/border gateways are needed to cover a forest?

Different forests and terrains require different solutions. Fewer sensors are required in lower risk areas such as remote locations. Nearer to infrastructure and areas of human activity (such as roads, campsites and railways), a denser deployment of sensors, mesh gateways and border gateways will be required.

As a rule of thumb, 0.7 sensors are required per hectare in higher risk areas, and 0.1 sensors per hectare where there’s lower risk. Overall, this amounts to an average of 0.2 sensors required per hectare for a typical forest location.

In terms of the ratio of sensors to gateways, one Mesh Gateway can support up to 100 Wildfire Sensors and one Border Gateway can support up to 20 Mesh Gateways.
